Glycogen is the readly mobilised form of glucose.So whenever needed the glycogen is broken down to get glucose for energy of the body.Glycogen's role in maintaining blood-glucose levels is very important because glucose is the only fuel used by the brain, except during prolonged starvation.

Breakdown of glycogen to glucose is called glycogen mobilisation.It happens in liver and muscle.

In liver breakdown of glycogen is regulated to maintain blood glucose levels.

In muscles breakdown of glycogen is regulated to meet the energy requirements of the
muscle cell.

That is during itermittent fasting or in between meals glycogen mobilisation happen in iver to maintain blood glucose levels .

And in muscle glycogen mobilisation occur during excersise to meet the glucose requirement of the muscle.
