Uncontrolled cell growth resulting in tumor are called cancer. They can be caused by various factors. Cancer causing agent or substances are known as carcinogens. Various causes of cancer are :

1. Exposure to chemical and toxic compounds.

Some carcinogens related to this are : Benzene, nickel, cadmium, asbestos, benzidine, smoking cigarettes or tobacco - contains atleast 66 known carcinogens.

2.Cancer by Ionising radiation

Various ionising radiation are responsible for the cause of cancer. Some examples includes X-rays, U-V rays, alpha beta gamma - rays.

3. Cancer causing pathogens.

Various known pathogens are responsible for causing cancer. Some of them includes : Human papilloma viruses, Epstein Barr viruses and Schistosoma spp.

4. Genetically linked.

Breast cancer, ovarian cancer and prostate cancer are genetically linked cancers.
