I would like to discuss about the history of physiotherapy, as a healthcare profession.

Physiotherapy, an allied group of healthcare along with doctors has its origin dating back to 400 BC at the time of Hippocrates. The earliest pioneers in this field are Hippocrates and Galen who practiced massage, oil therapy and hydrotherapy for certain ailments. The physiotherapy as a separate field was recognised in the year 1894 and Chartred Society of physiotherapy was formed in England. Physiotherapy gained popular attention as a field of rehabilitation in the year 1920s when they began to treat individuals affected by polio. Now, the field of physiotherapy has widened to include traction, manipulations and treatment of certain orthopaedic conditions and forms an integral part of trauma care.
