Research and write a short (300 – 500 words) essay on the concept of island biogeography. I’m particularly interested in the application of island biogeography to other, island-like systems (e.g., relicts, remnants, etc.—anywhere you have an isolated population/community/ecosystem that’s separated from a larger “mainland” population (think fragmentation of forests for agriculture).
On studying island biogeography, it is composed of many factors such as Flora, fauna, animals etc., Islands are of two types oceanic and continental islands. Continental island is the one where it will be connected with mainland by one time or many. It will get separated from sea whenever there is a rise in sea level or sinking of land under water. Oceanic island is the one which don't have connection with continent. It is formed by building up of coral reefs or volcanic origin. These islands differ in vegetation, climate, fauna etc., Space restrictions, competition and climate are some of the factors which affects normal fauna of the islands. Evolutionary processes of island work at different rates. Islands are isolated generally, hence species growing in island are extinct, endemic etc.,
