Which of the following is NOT involved in antioxidant defense?
A. glutathione peroxidase
B. superoxide dismutase
C. catalase
D. hydrogen peroxide
The body has certain endogenous compounds with or without enzymatic activity which behaves as antioxidants in defense mechanism of first , second , third and even fourth line . These act against free radicals to resist the damage to the cell components and finally to the tissue .
In the above mentioned all the four work against the free radicals but the option d' i.e. hydrogen peroxide though produces free radical but it itself is a toxic product so need to be removed from the body if present and therefore cannot be used in antioxidant defense
