Ans . Conjugation; an Hfr bacterium conjugating with an F-strain allows the generation of a map that is dependent on the passage of the donor chromosome across a conjugation tube. The genes are passed in a linear fashion. The transfer occurs by the cell to cell contact.

In order for this kind of mapping to occur the prescence of an F factor the strain plays a vital role. Apart from the F factor the Hfr strain can also be transferred by the mating bridge. It occurs by the formation of a special structure known as pilus where the transfer of DNA occurs.
