Why is the substrate for the reaction in the Calvin Cycle catalyzed by rubisco traditionally considered a catalytic molecule?

Answer #1

It is discovered by Calvin and Benson and their colleagues in California USA.It is called Calvin or C3 cycle.Process involved is autoradiography..

RUBISCO causes photosynthetic carboxylation .In this ribulose 1,5-biphosphate as a receptor of carbon dioxide and Ribulose 1,5 biphosphate carboxylase-oxygenase or RuBisCo as enzyme.

Carbon dioxide combines with ribulose -1,5biphosphate to produce transient intermediate compound called 2-catboxy 3-keto 1,5-biphosphoribotol.Thd intermediate splits up immediately in presence of water to form the two molecules of 3-phosphoglyceric acid or PGA.It is the first stable product of photosynthesis.

An enzyme-catalyzed reaction was carried out with the substrate concentration initially a thousand times greater than the Km for that substrate. After 9 minutes, 1% of the substrate had been converted to product, and the amount of product formed in the reaction mixture was 12 mmol. If, in a separate experiment, one-third as much enzyme and twice as much substrate had been combined, how long would it take for the same amount (12 mmol) of product to be formed?
