Answer: Hela cells are immortal cancerous cells. Hela is oldest and mostly used cell line in research field. Hela cells were originated from cancerous cervical tumor. It known as Hela cell after the name of donor Henrietta Lacks in 1951. Its genome is related to human papillomavirus as a result of horizontal gene transfer. Hela cells are controversial since the beginning. During 1951, ethical issues were not much important. So, the researcher who took cervical cells sample didn’t inform Henrietta about his plans of using Hela cells for research purpose, that is ethical controversy.
