What method did we use in lab to visualize the DNA fragments?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The method we use in lab to visualize the DNA fragments is gel electrophoresis. In this method, it separate the DNA fragments according to the fragment size. The DNA fragments are negatively charged due to the presence of phosphate group and when we allow current to pass through the gel, the DNA fragments will move to the positive side of the tank. During electrophoresis, more smaller fragments will move faster and can be seen near the positive side of the electrophoresis tank while larger DNA fragments are seen near the negative side of the electrophoresis tank due to its difference in fragment size.

We did the "avogadro's number" lab in chemistry, we were working specifically with stearic acid and in the calculations we assumed that the molecules were either cubes or rectangular cubes. In my lab report its asking us what THREE possible fallacies of assuming the submicroscopic model is a cube or recangular cube? and what effect do these fallacies have on the result of this calculation? can anyone englighten me.

In the first part of the lab we did oxydation of Borneol to Camphor. The next lab will be for the reduction of Camphor to Isoborneol. I am having a hard time preparing the separation/extraction scheme for this. normally we have an aquaeous layer and an organic layer split on the scheme. Please provide a full separation/ extraction scheme for the reduction of camphor to Isoborneol.
