Assuming a potential for ‘wobble’, what anticodon(s) in the tRNA would bind to the transcript encoded by a 5’- TAC -3’ sequence encoded in the DNA? (note that all answers are written in 5’ to 3’ orientation)

a. CAU only

b. CAU and CAI

Answer is C

c. UAC only

d. UAC or UAU

e. AUG

f. GUA and GUI

g. None of the above

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The correct option is: C. UAC only

Explanation:

Sequence in DNA: 5' TAC 3'

Sequence in mRNA: 3' AUG 5' (Codon)

Sequence in tRNA: 5' UAC 3' / 5' IAC 3' (Anticodon)

In the wobble position A can pair with I (hypoxanthine) also. So the anticodons 5' UAC 3' and 5' IAC 3' both can pair with the codon 5'GUA 3'.

So from the above options it is clear that option C is correct.
