Lampreys are included in the order Petromyzoniformes. The chracteristics are as follows:

  • Adults have the body like eel,without scales and lack paired fins, moouth is like funnel and sucking in nature.
  • They have cartilaginous skeleton with a series of structure known as arcualia which is situated above notochord.
  • They have large eyes and one nostril which is situated on top of the head accompanied by seven gill pores.
  • The pharyx get subdivided and ventral part used to form a respiratoy tube which get isolated from mouth.
