In a hybrid cross between two individuals with the following genotypes:

Parent 1: A/A, b/b, D/D, e/e, F/F Parent 2: a/a, B/B, d/d, E/E, F/F

the five genes are sorted independently, excpet for D and E, which are tightly linked and show zero recombination. What fraction of the progeny following a selfing of the F1 hybrid would NOT resemble the parents PHENOTYPICALLY ?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

for both parents5 genes are assorted independently however gene D and E are tightly linked but no recombination occures. hence D and E too assort independently. as it follows typical mendelian pattern. the resultant progent is 9:3:3:3:3:3:1. out of 25 possible progenies 9 may resemble with their parent hence, 16 may not resembles as their parents.see the table, the bold latters are progeny may resemble with parents.

(5 pts) Genes D and E are located in the Drosophila genome. DE·DE females are crossed with de·de males to produce F1 flies that are heterozygous for both traits. What gametes do each of these parents make? F1 females were crossed with de·de males, and 2000 flies were examined. What gametes do each of these parents make? What are the possible genotypes of the offspring produced from the cross in part B? If the genes were sorting independently (not linked),...

a.) There are genes C and D that are 16 map units apart. The cross parent genotypes are: CC:DD x cc:dd. What would be the proportion of gametes C:D in the F1 generation? b.) There are genes C and D that are 20 map units apart. The parental cross was CC:dd x cc:DD and F1 individuals were crossed, Cc:Dd x Cc:Dd. What is the proportion of the F2 offspring that have the CC:DD genotype?

For each gene, assume the capital letter indicates a dominant allele and the lower case letter (small) indicates a recessive allele. In corn, the trait for yellow seedlings (g) is recessive to green seedlings (G), and waxy endosperm (w) is recessive to starchy endosperm (W). The two genes assort independently. A cross between a homozygous green, waxy plant and a homozygous yellow starchy plant produced F1 progeny that were all phenotypically green, starchy. a) If F1 individuals are interbred (self-pollinated), what phenotypes and in what proportions (ratios) would you expect in the F2 generation progeny b) List the expected F2 genotypes...
