The term 'breed' is used for a group of animals which share related descent. They generally share similar characters like physical appearence such as size, shape. In breeding process, animals with specific or desiarable genetic trait are choose to mate selectively, so that they can continue the charater or trait in future generations also.

The objective of animal breeding is as follows:

1. Increasing the number of animals.
2. Producing animals with specified or desirabale characters. For eg to increase milk production or having animals with high protein value.
3. Producing animals which are resistant to specific diseases.
