Epithelial tissues are among the most basic tissues in the animal system. These tissues line th cavities, blood vessels and organs in the entire body. They can be of various types based on the shape of the constituting cell like squamous, cuboidal etc.

Function:

1. it forms a barrier to protect the tissues from dessication, toxins, abrasion

2. epethial tissue forms basement membrane which possess selective permeability to control the transport of molecules/ion etc.

3. epethilial tissues form cell junctions

4. secretory functions- sweat, mucus, enzymes

5. sensing
