Which of the following is not an application of DNA/RNA sequencing?

Group of answer choices

a) Genome sequencing

b) Measuring transcription

c) Determining the 3-D spatial organization of chromatin in the nucleus

d) Detecting alternative splicing forms of gene transcripts

e) Mapping epigenetic markers on a genome

f) All of the above are possible applications of DNA/RNA sequencing

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Ans) The correct answer is "B" i.e measuring transcription

(DNA/RNA sequencing cannot measure transcription rate but these techniques are employed for the determination of DNA/RNA sequences of the genome.Whole genome sequencing, shot gun sequencing etc can be used to sequence entire genome.Once the sequence is known, we can easily annotate, map like epigenetic markers on a genome and determine 3-D spatial organization of chromatin in the nucleus. RNA sequencing method can be used to understand the pathogenesis of diseases by 16S rRNA sequencing too particularly by pyrosequencing. 16S rRNA is used because they are conserved regions)
