For glycolysis, citric acid cycle and electron transport chain: Which require oxygen to function? Which don’t require oxygen? Where is each pathway located in prokaryotes? Where is each pathway located in eukaryotes?
Glycolysis:- It can be aerobic and anaerobic depending upon oxygen availability. In eukaryotes it is located in cytosol of all cells. It occurs in cytoplasm of prokaryotic cells.
Citric acid cycle:- It requires oxygen if oxygen is not present then Pyruvate from Glycolysis will be converted into lactate instead of Pyruvate. It is located in the mitochondrial matrix of all eukaryotes. It occurs in cytoplasm of prokaryotic cells.
Electron transport chain:- It requires oxygen. It is located in the mitochondrial matrix of eukaryotes. It is occurs in plasma membrane of prokaryotic cells.
