Imagine a diploid cell contains 14 chromosomes and undergoes the process of mitotic cell division. Identify how many chromosomes would be in the daughter cells of this completed process.

How many chromosome will be produced in the daughter cells under meiosis if a cell has 14 chromosomes?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

We know that the mitotic cell division is the equal division which means the produced daughter cell will contain a similar number of chromosomes as the mother cell. Now, the diploid mother cell contains 14 chromosomes. So, after mitotic cell division, two of the daughter cells will be produced and each will have 14 chromosomes.

But, for the meiosis, as it is half division, after the meiosis process 4 daughter cells will be produced each containing half the chromosome number of the mother cell. Here, the mother cell contains 14 chromosomes, so each of the daughter will contain 7 chromosomes.
