Protein on the surface are very important in cell signaling. Different proteins are present on the cell surface that react with different ligand and send certain signal or amplify the signal that is very crucial for the survival of the cell. Some signal may lead to production of other proteins or messenger RNA that is very important for the cell activity.

Cell surface proteins also interact with proteins of adjacent cells and make the stronger cell network for the tissue making. These interactions of the neighbor cell surface proteins with each other is very important for the intra cell signaling.
