Explain why DNA is a better material for storing genetic information than proteins.
DNA is known as a storehouse for genetic information. The flow of genetic information occurs from DNA to RNA and then to proteins. DNA is a much more stable structure than proteins which helps it to store genetic information for a longer duration of time.
Another most important thing is that DNA repair machinery allows the damaged DNA to be repaired efficiently which is next to impossible in case of proteins as the damaged proteins are mostly targetted fro degradation or aggregate to cause diseases. There is no such repair machinery for proteins observed.
Genetic information needs to be duplicated and passed onto to next generation. DNA can be duplicated or replicated and passed onto the next generation. Replication of proteins does not happen.
