Ans 2. Mitochondria and plant plastids are called semiautonomous because of following reasons.

1. These two organalles have their own DNA molecule present within them and can replicate independently.

2.these organalles DNA produorganallesown tRNA , mRNA and ribosomal RNA.

3. They have their own ribosomes and mitoribosomes.

4. Mitochondria producss some of its own proteins necessary for respiration similarly the plant plastids produce proteins for photosyntheis.

They are still dependent on the nuclear DNA for some of their functions that is why they are called semi autonomous organalles.
