IgA:antigen complexes can be re-exported to the gut lumen in order to enhance pathogen excretion from the organism. In contrast, formation of IgA:antigen complexes can also enhance the uptake of luminal antigen. How can uptake of antigen be beneficial to the organism?

Homework Answers

Answer #1
  • Uptake of antigen benefits to the organism by stimulating a strong immune responses against the antigen (Ag). This happens so, where these Ag are taken up to the M-cells through the gut associated lymphoidal follicles. The M cells can be found over in the lymphoid follicles and in peyers patches, where these cells takes the Ag to the dendritics cells (DCs) . The DCs are active cells in capturing Ag and develops regulatory T cells specific to the Ag to nourish these Ags while developing the immune reponses.
