How can the concept of recombination frequency be used in genetic mapping?
Genetic mapping is laso known as linkage mapping.Genetic mapping helps us to understand and provide firm evidence if for example as disease that is transmitted from parent to child is linked to one or more genes. We can find out if two genes are linked or not and how tightly they are linked by using data from genetic crosses that can be used to calculate the recombination frequency.Recombination frequency gives us an estimate of the physical distance.between a pair of genes.Larger recombination frequency means the gene pairs are far apart while a smaller recombination frequency means the gene pair are close together. Thus by calculating recombination frequencies for gene pairs, we can make genetic/ linkage maps from which we can know the order and relative distances of the genes present on the chromosome.
