How can you find the number of pairs of alleles involved in polygenic inheritance by using the number of phenotypic forms of the trait they condition?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The formula is

p = 2a + 1

where "p" is number of phenotypic forms and "a" is number of alleles invloved in the polygenic inheritance.

Polygenic inhertiance is depends on multiple number of alleles present in different number genes (mutifactorial inheritance), the cumulative effect of different alleles gives the phenotypic trait like height, eye color etc.

Its diffcult to find the number of phenotypic forms (p) since phenotype has environmental effect and multigenic nature of inhetance.

Total fingerprint ridge count exemplifies a polygenic inheritance pattern. Penrose (1969) and others have suggested that a minimum of seven gene loci contribute to TRC, but a fourlocus model is hypothesized in the problems that follow. Thus, AABBCCDD represents the genotype for maximum ridge count and aabbccdd symbolizes the genotype for the minimum ridge count. Assume that each active (dominant) allele adds 12 ridges to the TRC of the male and 9 to the TRC of the female and that...

You must write down the formula you are using and then plug numbers into that formula correctly to receive full credit. Five genes are known to work together according to the multiple gene hypothesis to determine weight, a polygenic trait. Individuals of genotype AAbbDdEEFF weigh 24 lbs. and individuals of genotype AabbDdEeff weigh 16 lbs. Calculate the contribution of one additive allele to weight. Capital letters represent additive alleles, and lower case letters represent non-additive alleles.

Hi,regarding to how dominant gene alleles and recessive gene alleles determine expression of single-gene traits.. I need to how the genetic basis of a health problem(diesease or disorder example) regarding dominant and recessive gene expression of single-gene traits relates to its:: a. Mode of inheritance and b. Causative and susceptibility genes. Please let me know where you found this so I can write a summary paper, please
