What are all the possibilities of genotypes and phenotypes formed in the combination of alleles responsible for the production of factor VIII?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Factor VII is a blood clotting protein or factor helps in blood coagulation also known as anti-hemophilic factor (AHF) which is encoded by F8 gene. Any defects in F8 gene results in reccessive X linked disease hemophilia A. If we Consider two alleles Xh and X, in which Xh represents allele for hemophilia A.

Then the possible genotypes are:

  • XX, XXh and XhXh are in women
  • XY and XhY are in men.

If we Consider the phenotypes the factor VIII is produced in every individual which contains at least one non-affected X chromosome.

Therefore the Normal phenotypes are:

  • XX and XXh in women
  • XY in men

If we Consider the phenotypes the factor VIII is produced in those individual which does not contains one non-affected X chromosome.

Therefore the Abnormal or diseased phenotypes are:

  • XhXh in women
  • XhY in men

Consider a hypothetical flower called the Purple Beauty whose wild-type phenotype consists of dark purple pigmentation. The purple pigment is the product of a biosynthetic pathway involving a number of enzymatic steps in which a colorless precursor compound, P, is sequentially converted into two intermediate molecules, I(1) and I(2), and then into the final product, the dark purple pigment, DP. The following is a diagram of this biosynthetic pathway, where gene A is responsible for the production of enzyme A,...

Which of the following correctly describes this cross? Choose all that apply. Now determine the genotypes of the possible gametes and set up a Punnett square for the cross between two double heterozygotes, as you did before in a previous question (no need to attach that Punnett square). From your Punnett square, determine how many individual kernels have the genotypes and phenotypes shown in the table below. Enter your answers as a number (e.g. 7) not a word (e.g. seven)...
