At the beginning of the course I defined Genetics as “the study of how biological information is stored, utilized and passed on from one generation to the next”. Summarize your understanding of how the storage, accessing and passage of biological information occurs. Your essay should be well organized, well written and comprehensive.
Genetics
Genetics is the study of genes, genetic variation, heredity in organisms, that deals with the traits: hair color, eye color, and risk for disease are passed from parents to their children.
DNA contains the instructions needed for an organism to develop, survive and reproduce and therefore for this, DNA sequences converted into messages that can be used to produce proteins. DNA is a nucleic acid that stores genetic instructions by the order of the four nitrogen bases (A, T, G, and C) that make up the DNA molecule. The genes found in DNA specify the sequence of mRNA, which in turn specify the sequence of proteins, that dictate cell function.
The exchange of the genetic material of parental chromosomes is takes place during meiotic cell division and as a result, offsprings are formed with the combinations of traits that differ from those found in either parent.
