1) they are transparent, simple body plan so the twin developmental processes or neuron pathway can be traced easily in living organism.

2)most of C. elegans genome have functional counterparts in human so they are best for study of human disorders.

3)simplest organism with brain and 1/3rd of their cell are neuron so it is easy to study neuron signal pathway.

Their strains are  easy to culture , cheap, and preserved by freezing and activated by thawing so can be preserved for long time .No handling issues in lab.
