Exploration of Gene Expression in Dictyostelium species
Similar genes (homologs) are found in humans. Do you expect the expression of these genes to be similar during human development? during cancer development?
Homologous genes regulate the development of anatomical structures in human development. They often encode transcription factor proteins ,and these proteins affect development by regulating downstream gene networks involved in body patterning.Tese protens can activate one gene but repress another ,producind effects that arecomplementory and necessory for the ordered development of organism.Mutations in homologous genes cause displaced body parts i.e homeosis play a role in cancer development in bone, lungs, breast etc.Tumor surpressor gene also called antioncogene ,any calass of gene normally involved in regulatingcell growth but that may become cancer causing when damaged.Antioncogene act to stem the uncontrolled growth of cacer cells.Genetic damage or mutation occurs to these genes contribuites to development of cancerous tumour.
