It enters the peripheral nervous system directly and migrates to the brain.

It replicates within muscle tissue where it is safe from immune system of host.

It is prevented by taking regular antirabies vaccines, by making bans on import of animals from some countries.

It is treated by fast acting dose of rabies immune globulin and by giving a series of rabies vaccines.
