What is parallel evolution?

Answer #1

To answer this question, we can define first the word “parallel” and everything will make sense. Parallel means that two or more things are side by side in the same direction. Now, in terms of evolution it means that two or more species evolved in the same direction but without interception. In other words, parallel evolution refers to the phenomenon where different species developed the same trait in response to similar evolutionary pressure. However, these species do not share any common ancestor.
