In humans, people with at least one dominant RhD allele have a Rh positive blood type. People with a homozygous recessive genotype have a Rh negative blood type. In the United States, 85% of the population is Rh positive and 15% are Rh negative. What are the values of p and q for the population in the United States?

The Hardy- Weinberg equation is as-

p2 +q2 +2pq=1

where p is the frequency of 'RhD' allele - Rh positive blood type

q is the frequency of 'Rhd' allele -  Rh negative blood type

p2 represents homozygous genotype DD

q2 represents homozygous genotype dd

2 pq represents hetrozygous genotype Dd

to calculate the values of p and q are described as following:

85% population with Rh positive DD, 15 % population with Rh Negative dd

p= f(D) = 85% 85/100

p2  = 0.85

p=  √0.85

p= 0.921

q= f(d) = 1- p f(D)

q= f(d) = 0.08

So, the values for p and q are p= 0.921 and  q= 0.08
