The member of the aquaglyceroporins that permit the rapid transport of water and glycerol is the water channel and is known as AQP7 (aquaporin-7). AQP7 have a physiological role in the male reproductive system and the kidney.

AQP7 is present at the apical membrane of the proximal convoluted tubules in abundance in the kidney. The AQP7 contribution to the water permeability of PCT is minimal in comparison to AQP1.

A novel glycerol reabsorption pathway is crucial in prevention of glycerol extraction into urine.

AQP7 is found primarily in the spermatids, and is also present in the epididymal and testicular spermatozoa. It has some role in late spermatogenesis.

Kidney transplantation or any kidney disease affects the male reproductive system and the DNA of the sperm or quality and quantity can be disrupted.
