opportunistic pathogens are usually normal flora that are able to reproduce in a new location
|
True.
Opportunistic pathogens are organisms that are resident flora which cause infections in immunocompromised state . In immunocompromised state the organism increases in number and invades epithelial and mucous surfaces.
For example- candida albicans normally resides in the gut , mouth , skin , etc . When it causes infection it causes oral and vaginal thrush, candidiasis of skin etc. Candidiasis can occur all over the body in new locations as it can reproduce and colonise a site in large numbers.
