Which of the following is produced by meiosis?

Somatic cells

Animal gametes

Polyploid cells

Diploid cells

Zygotes

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Ans. Animal gametes

Meiosis is a process where a single cell divides twice to produce four cells containing half the original amount of genetic information. These cells are our sex cells or gametes – sperm in males, eggs in females.

Meiosis have 2 phases-Meiosis I and Meiosis II.

In meiosis I, homologous chromosomes separate, so no. Of chromosomes reduces to 23.so meiosis I also called reductional division.

In meiosis II ,chromatids separate ,so that no. Of chromosomes remain 23.That's why meiosis II also called equational division.

Meiosis differs from mitosis because: meiosis occurs only in somatic cells. gene exchange between sister chromatids may occur in prophase I. synapsis over occurs in metaphase I. replication of DNA occurs between meiosis I and II. meiosis begins with one haploid cell and produces four diploid cells.
