What are the different types of the staining techniques for animal and plant cells?
There are differences between the structure and composition of plant and animal cells. So different staining technique can be used for the visualisation of these cells.
Starch grains are present in the cytoplasm of plant cells. Starch gives a blue black colour with iodine and therefore this can be used for the visualisation of plant cells.
Iodine can also be used for the visualisation of animal cell because it gives red colour with glycogen. Glycogen storage polysaccharide in animal cells like starch is a storage polysaccharide in plant cell.
Methylene blue is a positively charged dye and can be used for the staining of negatively charged DNA molecules present in nucleus. This dye can be used for both plants and animals.
Safranine is used for the staining of cell wall of plants. It gives a red colour.
