How does genome assembly differ from genome annotation?
Genome assembly is a computational process of reconstructing a complete sequence of a DNA molecule from short sequence fragments. In this technique short read sequences are used as input and assembled with respect to different parameters to construct a complete sequence.
Genome annotation-It is a process of assigning a possible function to a thread od nucleotides.Through gene annotation the location of the gene and the coding region of the gene in the genome are identified and thier functions are determined and explained.
Thus in case of gene assembly it is only the assembly of the nucleotides to determine the complete sequence of the gene while in case of gene annotationit is the identification of the location of the gene and description of the possible function of the gene.
