De novo synthesized fatty acid contributes to survival of cancer cells not only as energy substrates but also as signaling molecules.

a) True

b) False

Homework Answers

Answer #1

In cancer cell the synthesus of fatty acid as the highly proliferating cancer cell need to make the cell membrane,so it needs to continuously provide lipid through de novo synthesis.

The increase de novo fatty acid synthesis increase multiple mechanism including the the FASN. The FASN synthesis is regulated by growth factors like- the growth factor receptor, EGFR ,HER2,steroid hormone etc. it is also a fact that the FASN also induces the release of the growyh factors. So the de novo synthesized fatty acids (FASN) play role in cancer cell survival by supplying energy but also as the signaling molecule.

The answer is- True
