Provide an example of an organism that has pulmonary vascular system and discuss why this type of vascular system is more efficient for organisms that have a high metabolic demand for oxygen?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

PULMONARY VASCULAR SYSTEM is seen in mammals and birds. These organisms like lion, tiger, leopard, chita, elephant , humans etc and birds. They require faster, efficient , and more quantitative vascular system.

This is required because of high demands of oxygen, high metabolic rates , warm blooded ness, maintaining homeostasis, high physical movement activities , large bodies, and high resoiration rates.

This more efficient system because it supports no mixing of oxygenic and deoxygenated blood, double circulation, 4 chambered heart. Pulmonary cappilarh level diffusion of gases.

You have discovered an organism that has a fatty acid synthase system that makes arachidic acid (a 20 carbon fully saturated fatty acid) instead of palmitic acid as most cells do. Assume that the pathway is the same (except that the synthase stops at 20 carbons instead of 16 carbons). The energy of combustion of glucose is about -2805 kJ/mole, and the energy of combustion of arachidic acid is about -12,600 kJ/mole. The molecular weight of glucose is 180 g/mole...

Chemistry Case Ricky, a 70- year-old man with a history of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and respiratory infections, was admitted to the ER (just for the purposes of this case study) with a chronic cough and extreme dyspnea. He complained that he was unable to climb stairs or anything else that required any exertion. He had been a heavy smoker since his teens. The nurse noted his temperature was 101.2oF. See Table 2A and 2B. Table 2A: Arterial Blood...
