1. A dolphin has 44 total chromosomes in a diploid cell. How many kinetochores are present in a dolphin cell at mitosis?

2. How many chromosomes are typically present in a single cell of this diploid species (dolphin)?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

1. A dolphin has 44 chromosomes in number, In a normal mitotic Metaphase chromosome 2n Kinetochores pairs number will be present. If we calculate for Dolphin 2*44=88 is the kinetochore number.

Meiosis is divided into meiosis-I and meiosis-II. In meiosis-I number is reduced to 22 as the kinetochores are present as tetrads and so reduced.

In Meiosis-II, seperation of chromatids takes place and was 22.

2. In a diploid cell of dolphin only 44 chromosomes are present. But in case of germ line cell it will be 22 in number.
