Explain the drug concentration-response relationship, contrasting potency and efficacy
Answer- The dose–response relationship or concentration-response relationship, is the magnitude of the response of an organism, as a function of concentration to a stimulus after a certain exposure time. It is represented by dose–response curve. A stimulus response curve is defined more broadly as the response from any type of stimulus, not limited to chemicals. It depend on the exposure time and exposure route of the drug.
The contrast potency is the measure of drug activity i.e. the amount required to produce an effect of an intensity. A highly potent drug provides a response at low concentrations, while a drug of lower potency provides the same response only at higher concentrations.
Efficacy is the maximum response achieved from a pharmaceutical drug for a sufficient therapeutic effect .
