The rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus) has a diploid number of 44. How many chromosomes will be present in the following cell types:

a.       First polar body

b.       Primary spermatocyte

c.       Spermatozoa

d.       Oogonium

Homework Answers

Answer #1

a. First polar body
As it is the result of first meiosis and as the chromosome segregation occurs in meiosis I it results hapolid condition,so, 22 chromosomes will be there in first polar body.

b. Primary spermatocyte
As the primary spermatocyte is in dipoloid condition 44 chromosomes are present.

c. Spermatozoa
As it is the result of complete meiosis and as the chromosome segregation and chromatid segregation occurs in meiosis it results hapolid condition,so, 22 chromosomes will be there in spermatoza.

d. Oogonium
The starting cell of the primary oocyte is reffered as oognium. As it is in dipoloid condition 44 chromosomes are present.
