Answer #1

Down syndrome is caused due to trisomy of 21st chromosomes or is the condition when three 21st chromosomes are present in an individual instead of two.

Individuals with this syndrome have furrowed tongue, epicanthic folds in eyes, round head, mental retardation etc.

The extra 21st chromosome in Down syndrome comes due to non disjunction of 21st chromosome during gamete formation which results in one gamete with one extra chromosome while another with one less chromosome.

So, correct answer is (c) having 3 chromosomes (#21) instead of a pair.
