Question: Golgi apparatus is found in large numbers in cells that synthesize hormones. Why?
Answer: Golgi apparatus is a part of the endomembrane system that plays multiple role in cellular functions including lipid synthesis and transport, processing proteins for secretion, and lysosymal formation. The protein hormones systhesis begins in the ribosomes. During the synthesis, these hormones get trasferred to RER(Rough endoplasmic reticulum), and leaves the RER in vesicles. These vesicles then move to the golgi apparatus where they get packaged into secretory granules to send to different parts of the cell or to the extracellular space. So most of the hormone is in its final form within the Golgi apparatus and are stored in granules within the gland until needed for release. These hormones are secreted through the process of exocytosis.
