Post a response (2-4 sentences each). You can start a discussion by pointing out additional reasons why you think this source is or is not credible. You can also suggest ways in which the site could be improved (is there information or are there sources they could have added? Are there different messages that would be more appropriate?). Write at least 1 response-post for each of the THREE “Part 1” posts you read (you will need at least 3 responses in total). For full marks, your posts must significantly contribute to the conversation, rather than simply be a “me too” response. Remember, the purpose of this assignment is to think critically.

Part 1A

The website I chose was: https://www.southbeachdiet.com/home/index.jsp. The South Beach Diet was formulated by a cardiologist who put together a workout plan as well as a meal plan in order to aid its participants get healthy and in shape.

Part 1B

Yes, the claim does make sense. It does not suggest a diet where certain foods are cut out completely or where fewer meals should take place. Rather, this diet believes in the eating of good carbs, good fats, and proteins. It does not imply that the program is intended for a quick fix or that it will be successful for everyone who attempts. The meal plan includes things like eggs, granola, meat, and broccoli which all come from food groups that we need in our daily lives.

The information does come from a credible source. Cardiologist, Dr. Agatston, is a world renowned doctor who created this South Beach Diet and has many accreditations. On the website, he explains the science behind the program and how it works. This is creditable in my opinion because he has put himself out there with his background and has also not left any questions unanswered.

Although this website is trying to sell something, it does not do so in a gimmicky kind of way. Instead, it explains why the use of certain foods we tend to shy away from are used and how they work once in our bodies which makes it more realistic in my opinion.

Part 1C

Personally, I do trust this website and what it is promoting. The reason why I have decided to trust the South Beach Diet is because it does not seem like every other diet that is trying to push a product on the customer, advertising it as a ‘miracle plan’. Rather, it promotes the use of things like carbs and fats which are usually cut out, like in the Keto diet. It also uses the recommended foods on the nutrition guide and incorporates a very manageable workout plan for all participants to easily accommodate.
