Sun is the source of light on earth, sunlight is used in photosynthesis. Only 2-10 % of sunlight part is used by plants for photosynthesis. Plants ( producer) convert light energy and CO2 into glucose and oxygen.

GPP( Gross primary productivity) - rate of biomass produced by plants during photosyntesis.

Only 10% of photosynthesis product is transferred to herbivores and 90% of energy is used by plants for various metabolic process.

Only 10% of herbivores (primary consumer) energy is transferred to next level ( secondary consumer).

This transfer of 10% energy to every next level is called ten percent law of energy flow.

Example: SUN(10000J) - PLANTS(1000J) - DEER(100J) - LION(10J) J= Joule.
