What are the limitations of ecological pyramids?

Some of the limitations of the ecological pyramids are as:-

1. It does not apply for the organisms which occupy more than one tropic levels in the food chain for example human beings occupy more than one tropic levels as they feed both on plants and animals hence they act act as herbivorous as well as carnivorous therefore to keep them in tropic level in ecological pyramid gets difficult.

2.saprophytes are not considered in any tropic level in the ecological pyramids even they play very significant role in the ecosystem.

3.ecological pyramids consider only simple food chains and doesnot take the food web in consideration.

4. Simple food chains is somwthing that donot exist in nature.

5. Food web is not included in the ecological pyramids.
