uptake and incorporation of exogenous genetic material from surrounding through cell membrane into cell which results into genetic alteration of cell.This process is known as transformation.

To transform multicellular organism , there should be genetic alteration of every cell present in organism but to transform unicellular organism,there should be genetic alteration of only one cell.so there is transformation of unicellular organism like bacteria is easier.
