What is the probability that the first offspring from the cross listed below will be heterozygous for all loci? (type as a decimal and round to 5 decimal places)

aa Bb dd Ee x AA bb Dd Ee

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Four types of gametes will be produced by each of the parent.

aaBbddEe will produce aBdE, aBde, abdE, abde.

AAbbDdEe will produce AbDe, AbDE, AbdE, Abde.

In order to obtain a progeny which is heterozygous for all loci, the gametes must interact in the following way, either aBdE X AbDe or aBde X AbDE.

Total 16 progeny/ offspring will be produced out of which only 2 will be heterozygous for all loci.

Hence the chances of having offspring of heterozygous for all loci will be 2/16 or 1/8 or 12.5%.

So the probability is 0.12500.
