Look at the photo below of one of the F2 hybrids. Count all the yellow kernels and all the purple kernels. Fill out a table like the one below, and use it to answer the questions.
Count the number of purple kernels and yellow kernels on the ear of corn, and put the data into a table like the one below.
Calculate the ratio of purple kernels to yellow kernels like this:
ex. let's say there were 55 purple kernels and 25 yellow.
# purple kernels | # yellow kernels | Ratio (#purple/#yellow) |
_______ | __________ | _______ |
The question says that we have to calculate the ratio between the corn kernels that are of purple and yellow color.
Ratio is counted as = larger number color kernels/ small number color kernels
So, I have a corn that has 74 Yellow kernels and 38 purple kernels. So to find its ratio
Larger number = yellow kernels = 74
Small number = purple kernels = 38
Ratio = 74 / 38 ------- as per formula for ratio given
= 1.947368
= 1.9 ( round off to 1 decimal place)
The same process can be repeated for different corns and then find out the ratio of different color kernels.
Thank you.?
