Aegyptopithecus is classified as a Catarrhine. What two specific traits support this classification?
Catarrhine relates with the primate group that includes old world monkey.
Aegyptopithecus provides a link between eocene and miocene epoch. It I classified under catarrhine due to:
1- Having apelike teeth along with the broad flat incisors and dimorphic canines quietly resemble with catarrhine.
2- The post cranial skeleton is monkey like, short and skull having strong temporalis muscle attachment along with a low saggital crest. Aegyptopithecus shows no link with hominoids or cercopithecoides of primate so it is believed to be linked with the primitive catarrhine .
