Describe, in general terms, the two main stages of photosynthesis.
Photosynthesis has two phases- Light phase and Dark phase
In light phase energy of sunlight is used by chlorophyll to breakdown a water molecule or for photolysis of water molecules. This gives out excited electrons. These excited electrons are used to make ATP and NADPH which are energy rich molecules. As sunlight is required for this phase, it is called light phase.
In dark phase the ATP and NADPH synthesized in light phase are used to produce glucose from carbon dioxide. As sunlight is not required in this reaction phase, it is called dark phase.
